Sand Ghosts
In 2024, I created Sand Ghosts, a series about the shifting nature of memory and its ties to physical transformation. The series is inspired by childhood memories of spending time on the beach, and the sand in it becomes a metaphor for the passage of time. I traced parts of my body on paper to make stencils, then spray-painted their silhouettes onto plexiglass and layered them with sand, embedded materiality into the work. The negative spaces created by stencils become “Ghosts,” speaking of immateriality and of transcending bodily boundaries. The layers of translucent acrylic paint interact with and get absorbed into the sand, reminiscent of water and of how memories get eroded over time.
