Plastispheres

In 2018, I began the Plastispheres series, named after the scientific term for oceanic ecosystems that evolve around floating plastic debris. These circular works on plexiglass are metaphors for survival and adaptation, reflecting my own search for artistic language. I repurposed my own clothing to “dress” the plexiglass circles with clothes that were no longer deemed “appropriate” for my age at the time. By extending their rounded boundaries with the fabric, I lent them a bodily shape, contending with conceptions of evolving sensuality and propriety.
